![]() At 100% Design Tokyo From 31 October to 4 November, 10 Dutch designers and brands showed their work at Japan’s 100% Design Tokyo, in the joint exhibition Created in Holland. The international trade fair drew 85,298 visitors. The first two days were reserved for the industry, with the last three open to the public. Since the first Dutch joint exhibition last year, From the Heart, interest in design from the Netherlands has increased in Japan. So has awareness of it. “Matchmaking for the Dutch designers and brands went better this year than last, because it’s better known,” says Nahoko Washio, business matchmaker for the Created in Holland participants. The designers and brands say the week in Tokyo went well. They made numerous contacts with interested Japanese parties through the matchmaker. The feedback they received from non-Europeans about their products was useful, too. It gave them insight into the Asian market as well as inspiration for creating new products. Created in Holland generated interest in the participants among Europeans as well as Asians. Concrete results won’t be measurable for several years, and building strong professional relationships in Japan can take a long time. But with Created in Holland, these designers have made a start. ![]() Samira Boon shows her work to a visitor of 100% DESIGN Tokyo. ![]() Caroline Vlieger of Vlieger & Vandam is being interviewed. ![]() Elleke van Gorsel explains about her silk skarfs to a visitor. ![]() The Created in Holland stand. ![]() The Created in Holland stand. ![]() Japanese matchmaker Nahoko Washio at work for Royal Tichelaar Makkum.
