Zahra Nabrhouh (20) and Jules van den Langenberg (19) graduated this year from the Sint Lucas creative course in Boxtel and have just finished working on the interior of a Dutch cycle shop.

The branch license owner of the Fietsfabriek asked them to design a new interior reflecting a new positioning of the new branch in Groningen. The Dutch brand 'De Fietsfabriek' designs, develops and sells a variety of bicycles, including frontload, granny and personalized bicycles, on the international market.

The two designers worked with the client and a number of craftspeople to realize the new interior. "The interior design is based on clean lines and an industrial feeling," says Zahra. "We used mostly black, white and grey tints. This shows off the colourful "Fietsfabriek bikes" very effectively. The shop also has a lounge, where people can rest up and have a drink after a test ride, as well as think about a possible purchase."

"The most noticeable thing about the shop is the lighting," says Jules. "This consists of sharp black silhouettes that turn out to be lamps made of waste materials from the Fietsfabriek: old bicycle tyre inner tubes. LEDs allow the colours to change gradually. This gives the shop a surprising and unique image on the street, especially at night."

The duo is presently in talks with the Fietsfabriek about using the interior design concept and the inner tube lighting in other branches. The lighting will be available for sale to individuals and companies via Gemaakt, a label established by Jules when he launched his design studio, Geraakt.
