This year's theme is Design and the Essential Economy. At WDF 2013 we will be starting a quest for an intelligent economy, which is better equipped to meet the challenges of our time. The forum will be moderated by Isolde Hallensleben.

Part #1. Inspiring examples

WDF will present inspiring examples of the essential economy at work in big transitions; Government Digital Service Cabinet Office by Ben Terrett (digital.cabinetoffice.gov.uk), Social Innovation Lab Kent by Emma Barrett (socialinnovation.typepad.com/silk/), 'Service Innovation for Train Travellers' by Geke van Dijk (http://www.stby.eu/) and Additive 3d-printing by Daan Kersten (http://www.additiveindustries.com).

Part #2. European Design Week directors on Essential Economy

With Silke Claus (Münich Creative Business Week), Kari Korkman (Helsinki Design Week) and Jovan Jelovac (Belgrade Design Week) we explore the nature of design in the essential economy, and the specific developments in their countries.

Part #3. Let’s work together

The third part will put designers and strategists to work together, in real time. For three different cases we will invite experienced designers and strategists to the table to discuss how design and strategic consultancy can connect and mutually enrich each other.
