The Great Glittery Escape
For his latest womenswear collection, Bas Kosters turns to pleasure, shine and joy to battle the constraints of modern life, for his 'Freedom Collection'.
The desire to be free and independent inspired Bas Kosters to create his new womenswear collection, presented last week in Paradiso in Amsterdam.
It brings you to a world of glitter, movement, ecstasy, pleasure and light. Bas Kosters is known as an eclectic artist/designer with a nose for innovation in fashion as well as music. His work is clearly recognisable by opulent use of colours, intensive embroidery and his signature prints.
The Freedom collection consists of two parts. The first part tells a story about the freedom, fantasies and joy that people experience during their childhood which results in a colourful and playful collection. The second part illustrates the grown up view on a world where we try to forget about overdose of information that reaches us in everyday life by so many different channels, like wars, violence and crisis. We try to forget by dancing underneath the light of a reflecting disco ball in outfits covered in pailettes and rhinestones.
A metaphor for this Freedom collection forms a balloon that can easily float to places where the wind goes. Another metaphor that Kosters used in this collection is the figure of a monster that illustrates the lack of freedom and safety that people experience regularly. These elements all come together in refreshing silhouettes and refined materials, making every piece of the collection unique.
