Several large Dutch group exhibitions will take over Milan this year including Tuttobene, Dutch Invertuals, 20134 Milan, Design Connection Brainport and Dutchness - Design Academy and Co.

By Editor Design.nl /asdf 16-04-2009

United by a common vision of design, various group exhibitions will be exhibiting different facets of Dutch design in Milan during the Fuori Salone.

Dutch Invertuals
In collaboration with the Italian label Verger, a group of Design Academy graduates aim to show that design originates from exploration, by taking familiar materials out of their usual context and putting them to use in an uncommon and therefore surrealistic way. Cardboard is used as carpet, vegetable juices are transformed into ink, masses of bound needles are transformed into human fur and suitcases shift shape with store cabinets. Each of the designers have a different background, resulting in a meltdown of different disciplines such as graphic, fashion, food and material design. The Dutch Invertuals are Edhv, Raw Color, Bart Hess, Pepe Heykoop, Daphna Issacs and Laurens Manders, Lead, House of Origin, Lotty Lindeman and Wendy Plomp.

Address: Verger Store, Via Varese 1, 20121, Milano
Opening times: 10.30 until 20.30
Press preview: Tuesday 21 April, 16.00
Party: Friday 24 April, 18.00 until 23.00

Dutchness
In 'Dutchness' the Design Academy Eindhoven aims to show more of itself as a school, with a focus on reflection and the value of the design and making process. Not only will the exhibition show designs of recent graduates, but work of present academy students and students from ArtEZ Institute of the Arts and feature the pop-up Dutchness Shop, curated by Judith ter Haar. And the Academy invited some partners, alumni and companies to give meaning to the so called 'Dutch mentality'. All eyes will be on the Academy as this will be the first presentation of the new executive board, Anne Mieke Eggenkamp and Alexander van Slobbe. The event will also be hosting the Premsela Design Forum Milan on Repair.

Also part of the presentation is Thomas Eyck who will present 'the flax project' by Christien Meindertsma and 'porcelain tableware' by Aldo Bakker and Scholten & Baijings with their new designs 'Truly Dutch'. These collections were made in collaboration with the Zuiderzee Museum.

Address: Romeo Gigli Café, Via Angelo Fumagalli 6, 20143 Milan
Opening times: 10.30 until 19.00
Press preview: 22 April, 10.30

Tuttobene
The sixth edition of Tuttobene presents 18 Dutch design studios and 5 international designers. What their products share is the consideration of sustainability in the design, determined by their ecologically and socially sound production and use. Objects on display vary from a cupboard made from dominos, garden hose furniture, lampshades woven from horsehair to a computer fashioned from porcelain.

Designers included for 2009 are by-lin, Floris Hovers Ontwerpen, Marianne Kemp, PeLiDesign, Atelier Schelling & Borsboom, H.U.U.B, Bo Reudler Studio, Plushdepartment, KREJCI, Sustainable Design Collective (More Than Hip & Celia Sluijter), Gerard der Kinderen, Studio-Re-Creation, MVOS, Studio Niels & Sven, Frans Willigers, Womanpower versus ABK, Damian O’Sullivan Design and Bok. The Tuttobene newspaper for 2009 is designed by Kitty Ebbers and Anne Heanni.

Additionally, Tuttobene will host an installation by design studio Kranen/Gille in the Milan branch of Rabobank. Located on Via Dante 16, the bank will be transformed into a world of wild forms characteristically found in the duo's work. With the title 'Growth', Kranen/Gille will metaphorically and literally address two hot topics of attention: the environment and the economy.

Address: Lotus Garage, Via Savona 6, 20144
