Spellbound: To Design A Story
We let ourselves be overflowed daily with news from all possible channels. Yet despite this, it happens that important information can be excluded because for example, of use of jargon or verbose legal terminology.
The credit crisis is a recent example of how disastrous the consequences of miscommunication and misinformation can be. Hence infographics are increasingly being used for communication. Not only in newspapers and magazines, but also by government and industry.
Informational graphics have always inspired people, from the Bayeux Tapestry and technical illustrations by Leonardo DaVinci to an accurate reconstruction of a plane crash shortly before a runway crash. Infographics is the field of designers and journalists; of image- and word artists. They've mastered the technique (and have the curiosity!) to clearly visualize the complex processes in discussion.
In his presentation, Frédérik Ruys - information designer for Vizualism and winner of the BNO / NVJ Infographic Award 2009 - shows the development of the field with diverse examples including interactive infographics, live data visualization and augmented reality.BNO Spellbound
