The Dutch Socialist Party’s house style, developed by Thonik, has been awarded the Dutch House Style Prize for 2007. The prize was awarded last Tuesday for the best house style developed during the previous two years.
The jury praised the SP’s house style as being ‘many-sided, but unambiguous’. It said the house style showed humour, and used a lot of red, so that red became an important distinguishing feature. The jury commented that both the designer and the organisation that had commissioned the design ought to receive the prize. "A good house style can only be created with good input from both parties."
Thonik also received an honourable mention for its design of the Bellevue Theatre’s house style.
Irma Boom Office were given honourable mentions for the house styles of KCAP Architects & Planners and Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum. Another three house styles and a brand were also given honourable mentions. These were the house styles of printer robstolk (designed by Marieke Zwartenkot), Restaurant Waterfront (designed by Anker x Strijbos), design agency Zuiderlicht’s own design for its website and the Tampopo brand (assignment from Multi-MR/C, design by Studio Laucke).
The Dutch house style prize is organised every two years by the Dutch Graphic Culture Foundation.
