SMALL TALK: Supporting Dutch fashion talent
Commercial fashion labels show their support for new talent with recent collaborations with emerging Dutch fashion designers.
Fans of Claes Iversen will soon have the opportunity to get their hands on of one of his creations without breaking the bank. Recently, Just B. released images of their new collection designed by the Danish-born Amsterdam-based designer which will be available from January 2010. Iversen's designs for the women's wear label comprises six items - pantsuit, tunic, three dresses and a jacket - that borrows from Japanese and African influences. The company has also worked with Mada van Gaans and Conny Groenewegen on previous collections. The collaboration with young designers forms part of the HTNK 'Turning Talent into Business' program.
Shoe label (and family company) Sacha celebrated their 100th birthday with a new collection from Michael Barnaart van Bergen. The young designer wowed audiences at Amsterdam International Fashion Week (A/W 2009/2010) with his very elegant debut prét-â-porter collection. At the end of 2008, Barnaart van Bergen successfully launched a limited edition collection for renowned fashion retailer Piet Zoomers. Themed around the idea of a birthday gift, the limited edition collection for Sacha will be available in October 2009. Sacha continues to support young talent with its Sacha Shoe Award and Golden Heel award.
Growing the portfolio of his studio, Daryl van Wouw has turned his hand to accessories, designing a series of limited edition watches for Swedish watch label Triwa. Available in three colours (red, green and white) the watches feature Chinese-inspired prints from his A/W 2009/2010.
