Arnhem Mode Biënnale
As of 1 February 2010, JOFF (Joffrey Moolhuizen) will take over as the new artistic director of the Arnhem Mode Biënnale (Arhem Fashion Biënnale). He follows in the footsteps of Piet Paris, the creative brain behind the first three editions. JOFF trained as a fashion designer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and Fashion Institute Arnhem. Since 2007, he has been fashion director at Blend Magazine, and senior editor at Capricious magazine in New York. JOFF works with choreography, graphic design, photography, performances and installations with specialisation in fashion. He's been involved with the Biënnale since 2005 where he was assistant to Piet Paris and became a co-curator in 2007.
Damrak Catwalk
The Lloyd Hotel Cultural Embassy in collaboration with AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute and NV Stadsgoed are making a start on transforming the Damrak into a more spectacular entrance into the city of Amsterdam: a sort of Damrak Catwalk. Leading directly from Central Station, the Damrak is currently not a particularly beautiful way to enter the city: its wide streets are lined with neon signs and sign boards for cheap hotels, tacky bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Come 2011, there are plans for a new fashion hotel, sister to the Lloyd Hotel, whose interiors will be designed in collaboration with AMFI students and alumni. The hotel will feature 63 rooms ranging from one to five star. Further more a new all-day breakfast cafe featuring Dutch regional products will be opened alongside a new design store. Stay tuned for more news.
