SMALL TALK: And the winners are...
Mevis & Van Deursen win the Amsterdamprijs 2009
Taking home €35,000 in prize money, graphic design duo Mevis & Van Deursen (Armand Mevis en Linda van Deursen) were one of the trio of winners of this year's Amsterdamprijs sponsored by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst. Among their work includes visual identities for Victor & Rolf, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and art magazine Metropolis M. The jury praised not only their innovative design work but also recognised the important role of the duo in the design industry as initiators and educators. The other two winners were theatermaker Adelheid Roosen and poet F. Starik.
Platform 21 Most Remarkable Repair Contest
Siba Sahabi with her one-day bags was announced the winner of Platform 21's Most Remarkable Repair Contest. Sahabi repaired a simple plastic bag that got caught between the spokes of her bicycle, and decorated it with an embroidered reference to the action that damaged the bag. In this manner her series of five fragile bags carry a special memory by transforming a throwaway object into something of value.
Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) Awards
Dutch award winners at this year's IDSA International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) include Kitten Scanner (Bronze) by the Healthcare Design Team of Philips Design (Netherlands/USA), Fighting Pneumonia: Philanthropy by Design Initiative (Bronze) by Stefano Marzano and the Design Team of Philips Design (Netherlands/USA), Oce ColorWave 600 (Bronze) by Oce Design and Oce Technologies, Sound Carpet (Bronze) by Lim Hyuntaik of Design Academy Eindhoven, Bisj Poles (Gold) by Design Team Kossmann.dejong and Dobber Sound Barrier for Airports (Silver) by Brandes en Meurs Industrial Design. This year’s IDEA jury, an international cross-section of design leaders was led by Andrew Hartman, Philips Design’s design director, new business.
Dutch Design Awards goes to India
The exhibition with the finalists and winners of the Dutch Design Awards 2008 (DDA) will travel to Design Yatra in India. Design Yatra is a four day design conference that will take place in Mumbai from 3 until 7 September 2009. The DDA presentation is part of the trade mission organised by the BNO Dutch Association of Designers in cooperation with Kyoorius Exchange with the aim to establish collaboration between designers in India and the Netherlands.
Third Italian Fashion award for Addy van den Krommenacker
Addy van den Krommenacker won an award in the fashion category of the annual "Premio Posidone D’argento" event which was held in Sicily.
