This week, all the finalists of the Dutch Design Awards have been announced and the third edition of the Dutch Fashion Awards moves to the Hague.
Nominees for more design awards have recently been announced.
Finalists Dutch Design Awards announced
This year, 74 finalists have been announced in the 2009 Dutch Design Awards. This 7th edition saw more than 700 submissions from established and emerging designers for a total of 20 awards in the main categories of Communication, Product and Spatial Design. Winners will be announced on 17 0ctober during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. Finalists include Thonik, KesselsKramer, The Stone Twins, Irma Boom, Maarten Baas, Studio Libertiny, Aldo Bakker, Jorre van Ast, Ted Noten, Iris van Herpen and more. Also announced will be awards in special categories: The Audi Design Award (public award), finalists: Firma Rieks Swarte with an animated picture story ‘L'enfant et les Sortilèges' by Maurice Ravel, Eddy Kaijser, Bart Cardinaal & Nadine Roos with The Flying Grass Carpet, Studio Wieki Somers with Merry-go-round coat rack, Aldo Bakker with porcelain table ware, Urban Alliance with Moodwall, and Maarten Baas with Real Time, the Rado Young Designer Award, (incentive award for young talent) finalists: Atelier NL, Jelte van Abbema and Mattijs van Bergen, the Toon van Tuijl Design Award, finalists: Home Sweet Home, Demakersvan and Potten, Renske Papavoine, the Best Client Award, and the BNO - Piet Zwart Life Time Achievement Award. The winners will be chosen by an international jury led by Karien van Gennip (Chairwoman, NL) and is comprised of Li Edelkoort (NL/FR), Cara McCarty (USA), Marcus Fairs (UK), Christoph Zellweger (Switzerland), Ilse Crawford (UK) , James Woudhuysen (UK), Rajesh Kejriwal (India), Ravi Naidoo (South Africa), Axel Enthoven (BE), Will Erens (BE), Timo de Rijk (NL), Bert van Meggelen (NL), Ton Kooymans (NL) and Vincent van Baar (NL). An exhibition of all winners and finalists will be presented in the Brainport Greenhouse on the Stadhuisplein in Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week.
Dutch Fashion Awards moves to The Hague
After two previous editions held in Amsterdam, the Dutch Fashion Foundation has elected for the relocation of next Dutch Fashion Awards to The Hague. The event will be held on 6 November. The award comprises several smaller awards and the major prize (€25,000) of the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award which was won last year by Monique van Heist and previously by Klavers van Engelen.
