Six Dutch products awarded Gold iF Product Design Award 2009

Philips, Arco and Senz Storm Umbrella (yes another award!) were among the 50 designers and companies awarded the Gold iF Product Design award for 2009 in Hannover.

The final stage of the 2009 iF Product Design awards was concluded with the announcement of Gold award winners in Hannover.

From the 802 entries which received an iF award, 50 of those received the coveted Gold award.

The 16 categories of the product design award include Transportation Design, Leisure / Lifestyle, Audio / Video, Telecommunications, Computers, Office / Business, Lighting, Furniture / Home Textiles, Kitchen / Household, Bathroom / Wellness, Buildings, Public Design / Interior Design, Medicine / Health+Care, Industry / Skilled Trades, Special Vehicles / Construction/Agriculture and Advanced Studies.

“The diversity of products in this year’s iF product design awards was overwhelming. The division into distinct categories made it possible for us jurors to focus on the entries and intensively discuss them. I would have wished for more information on the energy efficiency of some products, for example washing machines or dishwashers, since this is going to become one of the major issues over the next few years,” says Gijs Bakkers who was a member of the international jury.

Numerous Dutch designs were awarded a 2009 iF Product Design Award including entries from EYE-D, NPK Design, Van Berlo strategy & design TOMTOM, Brandes en Meurs industrial design and Philips who received 22 awards.

All the entries will be on display at the Hannover exhibition centre until August 2009. Additionally, the iF yearbook for product design 2009 is also now available. Published by Birkhäuser, the two part yearbook includes all this year's award winners listed in categories with a detailed manufacturer and designer index and jury comments.
