Sebastian Brajkovic chair purchased for V&A Museum
The Lathe Viii chair by Sebastian Brajkovic was purchased for the permanent collection of the V&A Museum in London during the DesignArt London fair last week. Price tag: £16 000.
No sign of the credit crunch at this year's DesignArt fair which was on in London from 15-19 October 2008.
During this past week emerging Dutch designer and Design Academy graduate Sebastian Brajkovic received a priceless kick start to his fledgling design career: his Lathe VIII chair was purchased for the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The chair is currently in the collection of London gallery Carpenters Workshop, who exhibited during the DesignArt London fair from 15-19 October 2008. Priced at £16 000 and one of eight limited editions, the chair was chosen by a panel of judges and purchased courtesy of sponsorship from champagne house Moët Hennessy. 'It’s directly looking at history but inspiring something new, which is a good theme for the V&A,' said curator Gareth Wiilliams in an article in the Financial Times. Plus, 'it would go straight into an exhibition next year, which is important for us'.
Brajkovic's first series of Lathe Chairs were his graduation project from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2006.
