The first prize of the El HEMA design prize has been won by Studio The White Room for its design for a Satellite Dish Sticker.
The Satellite Dish Sticker is a self-sticking decoration that adds colour in a playful way to the dullness of rooftops covered in satellite antennas. The jury was impressed by the lucid simplicity of this new product. The satellite dish sticker is not only for consumers with an Arabic background, but for anyone who likes to watch a non-standard selection of TV channels. The product can be applied easily and can be produced at low cost.
The first prize consists of an all-in language-learning trip to Damascus lasting four weeks. Two other products won second prizes: Vaat–i–maatjes by Eva Gonggrijp and the Thousand and One Nights cushion by Nellie Keijzer. The jury said it was impressed by the high quality and variety of the submissions and decided to award no fewer than 9 honorable mentions.
