Red Light Fashion Amsterdam to be extended
The question on everyone's lips was what will happen to Red Light Fashion Amsterdam in 2009? Well we've just heard that the popular fashion project will be extended for another six months.
Good news!
It was THE most talked-about Dutch fashion initiative in a long time, an inspiring project not without its fair share of controversies. Red Light Fashion Amsterdam (RLFA) was supposed to end at the beginning of 2009 but according to Mariëtte Hoitink director of HTNK the major initiator of the project, RLFA will be extended for another six months. A joint initiative between fashion recruitment & consultancy agency HTNK, building corporation NV Stadsgoed and the City of Amsterdam, the project continues to fascinate the public both locally and internationally and frustrate some locals. Some of the RLFA highlights for 2008 included the Redlight Fashion peepshow and art installation seen during FreeDesigndom, presentation by Mariëtte Hoitink of the project at Business of Design Week Hong Kong and a starring role on America's Next Top Model when the reality show came to Amsterdam. Meanwhile the project has been incredibly beneficial in promoting the work of the designers involved and has no doubt been a major conversation topic of 2008.
