Newsletter #106
Our fashion focus continues this week with the remainder of our coverage of Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW). From Bibi van der Velden's futuristic jewellery creations to Mada van Gaans' ode to a mythical godess, this season's AIFW was one of the most impressive editions to date. An important Agenda date for fashionistas will surely be Alexander van Slobbe's upcoming exhibition at the Centraal Museum Utrecht and in other news, our report from the annual Object Rotterdam fair for autonomous design looks at the differences between how design and art is viewed.
Individuals A/W 2010
Sedate but sexy, Amfi student brand Individuals has come of age with a collection boasting garments that women from New York to Paris would love to own.
'The Serpent Goddess' by Mada van Gaans
The mythical influences continue in Mada van Gaans' A/W 2010-11 collection where she draws inspiration from a delicate Cretan maiden, The Serpent Goddess.
Fewer objects, more collections
Moving away from singular objects, the most eye-catching aspects of Object Rotterdam for autonomous design came from the collections.
Gluejeans grows into 'Juxtapose' collection for Droog
Droog continues its foray into fashion with the release of the new 'Juxtapose' collection by the makers of Gluejeans.
Avatar meets Terminator: 'Sphere' by Bibi van der Velden
Bibi van der Velden's theatrical show featuring futuristic bulbous 'jewellery' worn by models emerging through a blue laser tunnel provided a spectacular finale to Amsterdam International Fashion Week.
'La Petite Femme' by Claes Iversen
As with the previous collections of Claes Iversen, personal experiences play a central role in the inspiration: this time, it's about the growth, processes and challenges of becoming an adult.
