Jurgen Bey New Director of the Sandberg Institute
Over the last year design education in Holland has undergone some dramatic changes all established to ensure that graduates come out of schools with the sort of knowledge that the evolving design industry now demands. The latest announcement is that leading Dutch designer Jurgen Bey will assume directorship of the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam from September of this year.
Jurgen Bey will be the new director of the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam as of September 1st 2010. The Sandberg Institute is part of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and hosts its three MA programmes in the field of Fine Arts & Design. Bey will replace Jos Houweling who will retire this July.
Jurgen Bey is an internationally renowned designer, his work intertwines concepts derived from art and industrial design. In 2002 he was one of the founders of studio Makkink&Bey. Besides his work as a designer he is currently a senior tutor at the Royal College of Art in London. Previously he taught at the Hochschule fur Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe. Bey received several awards for his work, and sits on juries and advisory committees.
As director of the Sandberg Institute, Bey aims to create links between the multidisciplinary Sandberg Institute, the bachelor programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and other institutes of knowledge and research.
