The Arnhem Fashion Biennale is being held at three main locations (the Museum of Modern Art Arnhem, the Rietveld building of ArtEZCollege for the Arts and De Steenfabriek on the banks of the Rhine).
A walking route connects the three locations. The group of participating designers is a combination of the large, well-known fashion houses and independent fashion designers. Among the participants are: the fashion houses of John Galliano, Lanvin, Viktor & Rolf and Maison Martin Margiela, as well as designers like ThreeAsFour, Cassette Playa, Henrik Vibskov, Rodarte, Cathy Pill, KIND, Sandra Backlund, Peter Pilotto, Romain Kremer, Basso & Brooke and Bernhard Willhelm. Piet Paris, internationally recognised fashion illustrator, is responsible for the artistic aspects of the fashion biennale, working with the co-curator JOFF.
Every two years, Arnhem Fashion Biennale puts the latest developments in Dutch fashion design in an international context. Its exhibitions, fashion shows, films, workshops, performances, publications and symposia focus on design though examinations of the cultural and social aspects of this applied art. One part of this year’s biennale is an open-air exhibition in the city centre, ‘The washing lines of Naples’. Inspired by the washing that can be seen drying in Naples, the exhibition consists of more than 100 canvasses hung from steel cables over the shopping streets of Arnhem. The ‘Fashion in Film Festival’ from London will make a special selection of films, which will be shown at the Filmhuis Arnhem. In addition, the world’s longest catwalk will be returning on 3 June as the ‘The Never-ending Catwalk’, a large-scale fashion parade that passes through the city centre. The admission price for the main locations is €8.00. An up-to-date list of participants and programmes can be found on the website of the Biennale.
