Inside OBJECT Rotterdam
Organized at a new location, the first stand-alone edition of OBJECT Rotterdam was a huge success. The fair attracted over 5.000 visitors. During four days the NAi/The New Institute became the epicenter of design with presentations by renowned galleries and design institutions, labels, and established designers as well as young and upcoming designers.
OBJECT embraced every aspect of design; product and industrial design, fashion and architectural design, crossing the border with arts and crafts.
The presentations were more innovative than ever with high quality and edgy pieces, varying from delicate jewelry to monumental furniture. The Rotterdam based architectural firm Superuse Studios signed for the overall exhibition design, which was very well received by the public and the participants. Anne van der Zwaag is very thrilled about the 2013 edition of OBJECT Rotterdam: "The format with high quality objects as well as more conceptual and experimental design presentations inspired professionals and the general public. The location as well as the exhibition set-up were completely new and turned out to be successful, based on the responses the fair was a big hit!" "The participants were excited about the atmosphere on the fair, the amount of highly interested and enthusiastic visitors, and about the sales they realized", says Anne van der Zwaag. The objects presented ranged from a few hundreds to thousands of euros and it was also this diversity that proved a success. Berlin based designer Lina-Marie Koeppen for example sold two pieces to be installed in the famous Droog Design Hotel that recently opened in Amsterdam! And one of the absolute highlights of this edition was the visit of fashion icon Jean-Paul Gaultier who took an hour of his free time to visit OBJECT and to chat with participants Lizan Freijsen, Dinie Besems, and Dutch design icon Tejo Remy, who’s work he highly admires.
