Highlights at the Salone
Compared to other events around the city, the actual Salone del Mobile did not have a heavy Dutch focus.
There were only three Dutch companies mentioned in The Dots' overview of the Fiera this year, they were Montis, Arco and Magis.
International design company Magis regularly employs well-known Dutch designers to create new products for there range. On show this year were designs by Marcel Wanders, Ineke Hans and Tom Dixon, among others.
Hans had designed a modular shelving system for Magis' Me Too collection named My Storage. The collection was especially created for children's rooms and features a wide range of fun and quirky pieces. The storage units can be used in many ways yet feature only a minimum of components.
Another Magis favorite is Marcel Wanders who presented Cyborg and Troy Family at the stand this year. Comprising a range of tables and chairs with some 'hidden' embellishments, Troy Family is set to be a crowd pleaser.
Dutch label Arco presented a host of new products at their stand including the incredibly comfortable Café Chair by Jonathan Prestwich and the Fat Table by Bertjan Pot - a counterpart for his Slim Table for the same brand. Although its appearance may seem simple and unpretentious, inside lies the secret to its success, a honeycomb structure ensuring the table is sturdy yet lightweight.
Featuring an authentic Dutch feel, furniture company Montis had designed their stand to look like the interior of a house, complete with windows, radiators and a bike. Productwise , there was a lot on offer including spherical poufs named Bonnet, 'privacy' chairs Scene XXL and the star of the show a chair called Marvin.
