G-Star puts on spectacular show at New York Fashion Week
G-Star launched their new Spring/Summer 2010 collection NY RAW with glamorous images of vintage Mediterranean ‘high society’ couture in mind.
G-Star unveiled their NY RAW Spring/Summer 2010 Collection at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York presenting the brand’s luxury to street aesthetic.
Vintage Mediterranean ‘high society’ couture provided the inspiration behind the new collection. The G-Star atelier demonstrated their signature denim craftsmanship with architectural techniques for pants and sophisticated tailoring for jackets and tops to create new silhouettes. Washes encompassed the complete life-cycle of denim, from the darkest raw through bright blues and bleached to non-dyed ecru. The combination of denim with breezily light materials in blues, whites and custom prints gave the collection a cool, high-summer feel.
For women the brand presented a feminine yet self-assured look with elegant dresses, luxury beachwear such as high-waisted bathing suits and hotpants. Key pieces for men were the cropped chinos and modern classic broad shouldered jackets. The extremely low, loose NY Raw Structor Pant that was the base of many looks, male and female, is the latest addition to the ongoing line of 3-D jeans silhouettes that started in 1996 with the G-Star Elwood. Paper pattern garments created with ‘moulage’ techniques were another example of the denim craftsmanship G-Star is known for.
For the show itself, G-Star played with silhouettes of models that emerged from five moving cylinders. A remix of the David Bowie song ‘Rebel Rebel’ accompanied a choreographed finale in true G-Star style.
