The Fonds BKVB (The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture) has announced the appointment of Özkan Gölpinar as cultural diversity programme manager.
The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (known in the Netherlands as Fonds BKVB) is the national body responsible for making grants to individual visual artists, designers and architects. Its objective is to nurture excellence in visual arts, design and architecture in the Netherlands. Gölpinar's role will be to link the Fonds BKVB with relevant organisations in the area of cultural diversity, to propose and make plans in this area, and to incorporate these into the policies of the Fonds.
The Fonds BKVB intends the appointment to underline the necessity to consider issues of cultural diversity, and this approach is included in the 2009 - 2012 policy plan. The fact that it is already included in the Fonds BKVB’s daily practice can be seen from the regular subsidies being paid and the growing supply of studios in non-Western countries. A period of work in studios such as these can contribute to a better understanding of other cultures and also lead to artistic exchange.
During the coming years, Özkan Gölpinar will focus on making cultural diversity a self-evident element of the policy of the Fonds BKVB. Özkan Gölpinar (1968) was until recently Senior Consultant Culture and Media at organisational advice bureau Berenschot in Utrecht.
