Royal Philips Electronics has won the Gold iF product design award for the EcoClassic50 energy saving lamp.

EcoClassic50 is the first ever energy saving lamp purposely designed not only to give excellent light quality but to suit fixtures where existing energy-savers could not be used. From hotel chains to lights in the home, the lamp helps save energy without compromising atmosphere or visual effect of the lighting installation. The lamp’s state-of-the art design uses halogen light, well suited to transparent lighting casings or open luminaires. The EcoClassic50 is the world’s most efficient halogen energy saver. It saves 50% energy, is dimmable, has instant start and a lifespan of 3 years.

iF Awards
Fritz Frenkler, chairperson of the iF jury said “This year, authentic products were clearly favoured in the iF product design awards. No fusion, no retro, no ‘pretending’: Only those who recognize product simplicity and ease of operation can be successful in the long term and help shape the ‘new modernity’!” . With 2,771 submissions from 35 countries around the world, the number of entries in the iF product design awards was up by 20.9% in 2008 compared to the prior year. 821 of them celebrated their iF product design award with the opportunity to participate in the Hanover exhibition. 50 of the 821 award winners received an iF gold award.
