She has been appointed general director of the organization created from the merger of the Amsterdam Music Theatre, De Nederlandse Opera and Dutch National Ballet.

In a short space of time, Van der Plas has brought Premsela and design and fashion in the Netherlands more prominently into the picture. Premsela is sorry to see her go, but also delighted that she will stay on as director until the proposed merger between Premsela, the Netherlands Architecture Institute and Virtueel Platform has been signed.

Els van der Plas has been director at Premsela since January 2011. Under her management, the organization entered into the merger with the NAi and Virtueel Platform that will result in a new institute in January 2013. In addition, Van der Plas was responsible for the relaunch of the Designhuis in Eindhoven, where Premsela has programmed various design exhibitions since October 2011.

The second TNO study into the scale and economic significance of the design sector was also realized recently and Premsela played an important role as one of the founders of Modekern Arnhem. The international programme, which falls partly within the Dutch Design Fashion and Architecture programme, will reach a peak this year. The traveling exhibitions Connecting Concepts (Eindhoven) and Basic Instincts (Arnhem) will return first to the Netherlands and can then be seen in Istanbul and Shenzhen (China) respectively. In addition, the exhibition Spring; Excellence, Talent and Inspiration in Design will travel on to the design week in Milan.

With Els van der Plas, Premsela also developed its coordinating role with regard to the fragmented design archives in the Netherlands, under the name ‘National Design Archive’.
