Dutch Designers at Maison & Objet Paris 2008
The bi-annual interiors fair Maison & Objet, the key fair for the French market took place last weekend 05-09 September 2008.
'Simple' pleasures
The influential trend forum, this season entitled Simple, included a favourite area Farm Life featuring signature pieces from Dutch designers. Piet Hein Eek’s Scrapwood table took pride of place in the barnyard setting and on top sat Stefan Scholten & Carole Baijings' Garlic Queen, part of the Woven Willow collection produced by Thomas Eyck’s t.e.
XO+ by Celia Suzanne Sluijter and Janske Megens is a Fairtrade collection of products made by women in different parts of Nepal. For Maison & Objet the duo further developed their range of paper textiles, created after discovering that the traditional lokta paper from Nepal, used for centuries by monks and officials as parchment for documents, could be woven into a washable fabric for cushions, lamp shades etc. New cushion designs incorporated embroidery or print decoration.
New lighting designs from Bloom!, created by designer Rob Slewe, included the BLOOM! portable lamp and Ornametrica, a range of chandeliers in aluminium that can be folded to create different sizes and shapes.
