In a bid to unite the world of water, a new initiative 'Dutch Delta Design 2012' calls on creative minds to help curate a spectacular program of water-related festivities.
The Dutch creative industries and Netherlands Water Partnership collaborate on a new initiative aiming to showcase the country's global water expertise.
The initiative 'Dutch Delta Design 2012' strives to further address the water challenges of world in the 21st century and highlight the leading position of The Netherlands in this field. To be held in 2012, the event aims to attract scientists, students, inventors, entrepreneurs and tourists to come to the Netherlands to participate in a celebration of all things water. Considering the age-old relationship of Dutch history culture with water, the Netherlands is no doubt an appropriate host country for this event.
So what you might be asking, does water and design have in common?
The organisers of the initiative will be engaging with the creative industries to create a special 'creative tour' program involving water hotspots throughout the country. Six industries have been highlighted to be part of the campaign: fashion, advertising, design, gaming, theatre and film. A steering committee has been established comprising representatives of these disciplines:
Fashion - James Veenhoff, former director and founder Amsterdam Fashion Week
Design - Joost Alferink
Gaming - Joke Witteveen
Art - Gemma Jellier, director Springdance
Advertising - Erik Wünsch, former director advertising agencies DDB en SWH
Online - Floor van Spaendonck, director Virtueel Platform
The first outlines of the programme will be presented on 16 September in Utrecht.
