Does the table come with the frog?

Flora and fauna take the spotlight again in Hella Jongerius' new exhibition Natura Design Magistra currently showing at Galerie Kreo in Paris.

By Jeanne Tan / 09-04-2009

If you're one of those people who doesn't like to dine alone at the dinner table, perhaps a new table designed by Hella Jongerius could be the answer to the dilemma.

The simple but elegant solid walnut table comes complete with a huge life-like frog, carved from walnut, perched on one corner. With a larger than life presence, the frog could prove to be a rather ideal dining companion.

The 'Frog' table is the centrepiece of a new collection specifically designed for Galerie Kreo in Paris as part of the solo exhibition 'Natura Design Magistra Hella Jongerius', showing from 4 April until 30 May 2009. This collection of more experimental pieces comprises three animal tables and a series of 'artificial flowers' displayed in ceramic vases also designed by Jongerius. The pieces are all made with the trademark craftsmanship juxtaposed with industrial techniques which Jongerius explores in her work.

Turtle is small multi-coloured coffee table, with the base carved from layers of plywood and resin topped with a resin fruit bowl. Snail is a small leather-covered coffee table with a built-in porcelain vase. The artificial flowers are hand made from glass, leather, wood and paper in whimsical variations attached onto different stalks. All the pieces in the collection are each made in a limited edition of eight.
