Product designer Martijn Homan has designed a jewellery collection for Dutch Design in Development (DDiD) in Lima, Peru.
The collection is made by producers who are associated with the fair trade organisation Allpa SAC. Silver with unusual finishes – such as sandpapering, brushing and welding– has been used in the collection, giving the jewellery a rough, “lived-with” look.
Instead of using existing locks and fasteners, simple solutions and powerful forms have been used to match the piece and integrate into the design. The collection is sold in Europe under the lab925 label by Martijn Homan via the Dutch importer, Unseen Products.
Dutch Design in Development (DDiD) is a matchmaking platform linking professional Dutch designers, export companies, design academies with companies in developing countries. With the expertise of experienced Dutch designers businesses who export to Europe get a better chance in the European market.
