Jan Taminiau plays with oppositions in his new collection entitled 'check, check mate!'

The JANTAMINIAU SS09 couture collection consists of 6 silhouettes inspired by Dutch folklore and garnished with details of the armour of a post-apocalyptic warrior. Released through a spectacular video (see below), this is his fourth couture collection.

A red, white and blue chequered fabric forms the basis of the collection. It is an antique handwoven Chinese fabric fringed with Swarovski crystals and decorated with traditional embroidery. The application of metal press buttons renders the pieces multifunctional: they allow an interplay with the shapes and in addition influence the movement of the pieces. The collars and head-dresses are inspired by the ‘col fraise’ and translated into modern folded shapes. The JANTAMINIAU SS09 Couture collection is nostalgic and romantic, vigorous and dynamic. The intermix of cultures that is particular to the Dutch identity forms Taminiau’s main source of inspiration.

Jan Taminiau was born in 1975 in The Netherlands. In 2001 he graduated from the Academy of Art and Design in Arnhem, and in 2003 from the master’s programme at the Fashion Institute of Arnhem. In 2003 he launched his own label, JANTAMINIAU.
