Chairs: Catalogue of the Delft Faculty of Architecture Collection
Chairs: Catalogue of the Delft Faculty of Architecture Collection
Initially intended as an educational tool, the chair collection at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft has become a seriously good collection of furniture: well it should be after more than a century in the making. Luckily there was no damage to the chairs in the recent fire that destroyed the architecture faculty building.
For the first time, the entire collection has been made into a thorough catalogue entitled 'Chairs' with over 240 chairs presented. Published by 010 and written by Otakar Mácel, Sander Woertman and Charlotte van Wijk, the book shows the diversity of the university's collection from the 17th century until today with iconic designs and rare pieces never previously published. Among the designers presented are Verner Panton, Gerrit Th. Rietveld, Hendrik Petrus Berlage, Jean Prouvé, Marcel Breuer and Droog Design. The book is available in English and Dutch and will be launched in Delft on 2 October 2008.
