Real estate development company Cosmopolitan Estates has commissioned Marcel Wanders to design the interior of one of their new luxury villas on Mallorca, Spain.

Located in Son Vida, the 800sqm house was designed by Swiss/US architects tecARCHITECTURE. It comprises a futuristic extension that grows from an existing mediterranean-style home, a juxtaposition of two completely different entities. Working with this idea of opposites, the starting point for the exuberant interior explores contrasting materials, texture and forms.

Wanders uses tricks of contrasting elements of new and old, antique and modern, hard and soft and curved and linear: chararacteristics all found ofcourse in his own furniture which furnishes the house almost entirely. The focus of the interior is the oversized curved relief wall of the living room wall that references traditional moulded cornices. The glossy white interior provides a backdrop for showcasing the more theatrical and colourful elements of Wanders' designs, from his furniture for Cappelini, Moooi, Poliform and B&B Italia to his limited Personal Edition designs to the custom-designed mosaics for Bisazza. Mallorca wouldn't be Mallorca without a bit of excess: the gold-and floral-tile clad open bathroom of the master bedroom is sure to satisfy any mogul's thirst for bling.
