Camper challenge with Hella Jongerius
Led by now Berlin-based Hella Jongerius, Spanish shoe label Camper hosted the first ever live public pitch to design the interior of a Camper store in Berlin.
Casa Camper, the Spanish shoe label's boutique design hotel in Berlin recently played host to the first ever public pitch event to design an interior for a Camper store.
The project was led by Hella Jongerius, (now Berlin-based) who has designed the Tribute to Camper collections for FW09 and SS10 and observed the work of five emerging Berlin-based design offices who were invited to partake in the live competition.
In an exciting event, the five design offices - ErenlerBauer, Ett la benn, Llot Llov, Studio Hausen and BetaTank battled it out for the honour to design the interior of the Camper store located on one of Berlin's most famous avenues: Kurfürstendamm.
On the night, the jury composed of Miquel Fluxà Ortó (Camper), Gerrit Terstiege (editor form magazine) and Hella Jongerius chose the winner, ErenlerBauer. An architecture duo comprising Efe Erenler and Paul Bauerm, the young practice was established in Berlin in 2003. Their winning proposal literally showcased the Camper products on a theatrical pedestal in an amphitheatre-like interior.
The interior pitch for the Camper Kurfürstendamm store falls into a Camper tradition of designer collaborations, for example involving Jaime Hayon, the Bourourellec brothers, Campana brothers and Konstantin Grcic. This is the first step of a project which will see two more assignments and refurbishments in the coming 36 months, aiming to give emerging designers the opportunity to present their work on a high-profile platform.
