Basic Instincts at the Eusebiuskerk
Objects, photographs and scale models created by product designers, photographers and architects will also feature in the exhibition Basic Instincts: Dutch Fashion in Context, hosted at the Eusebiuskerk by Premsela and the Museum voor Moderne Kunst Arnhem.
Basic Instincts first appeared in Berlin in July 2011.
(Un-)Dutch
Iris van Herpen, Oda Pausma, Monique van Heist, Klavers van Engelen and Anne de Grijff design garments that are sometimes sculptural but often surprisingly wearable. All of them have a strikingly individual style and a distinctive take on fashion. Likewise, the product designers, photographers and architects in the show have more in common than they might appear to: each works out of a strong personal vision that guides him or her through the creative process. Basic Instincts reveals the Netherlands' unique fashion and design culture in six varied exhibition landscapes.
Six landscapes
Surprises such as a palace of mirrors, an upside-down cinema and an inflatable wall make the show a colourful, inspiring experience. Each landscape centres on a single fashion designer and theme.
The sixth landscape comprises a multimedia installation depicting the fashion world in photography and film. It includes new work by the photographers Freudenthal /Verhagen and Petrovsky & Ramone.
No Show screening
On Friday 1 June, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts' fashion master's students will screen Team Peter Stigter's short film No Show at 7pm at the Eusebiuskerk.
Fashion events
Several organisations will stage fashion-related events in Arnhem during Basic Instincts. On Friday 1 June, Kerkstraat Fashion & Design 2012 and the fashion, interiors and art market Modetuin will open at 5pm and 6pm respectively. ArtEZ will hold its degree shows on Thursday and Friday 7 and 8 June. And the Nacht van de Mode will take place on Saturday 16 June. View the complete side programma here.
