Apocalypse Now

Guns, missiles, bombs and submarines. No it's not the lastest James Bond movie, but the imagery found on the latest Studio Job limited edition pieces recently premiered in Geneva.

By Jeanne Tan /asdf 19-11-2008

A deadly inventory of capitalism devised by eccentric visionaries.

Studio Job premiered their new limited edition installation 'Industry' at Mitterrand + Cramer in Geneva. For their first gallery exhibition in Switzerland, the duo consisting of Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, compiled a deadly visual 'inventory of capitalism' that adorns the new pieces: Nuclear power plants, guns, tanks, missiles, bombs dominate a landscape populated only by the surviving species like cockroaches, mice and flies and littered with the skeletons of endangered animals unable to escape. Man is clearly to blame.

There are seven pieces in total: five marquetry objects (a cabinet, screen, dressoir, table and pedestal inlayed with white dyed bird's eye maple and black dyed tulip tree veneers. A gilded bronze mirror and centrepiece complete the collection.

The exhibition will be on display at Mitterrand + Cramer, 52 rue de Bains, 1205 Geneva, Switzerland from 18 November 2008 until 10 January 2009.
